CHICAGO--The American Association of Women Dentists has pledged its support in the fight against breast cancer by becoming a part of the Hu-Friedy Y-ME Race to Empower team.

Hu-Friedy and the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization (Y-ME)--a Chicago-based national nonprofit organization with the mission to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone--formed a special bond in the fall of 2006 when Hu-Friedy created a periodontal promotion, "Inspired by You."

This promotion was focused directly toward dental professionals. The success of the promotion sparked a desire to further support Y-ME in their annual Mother's Day 3K/5K Race to Empower event.

Hu-Friedy reached out to the AAWD inviting the association to participate as part of the Hu-Friedy Race to Empower team in a cross-associational effort to raise support for the cause. The Association of Women Dentists responded with great enthusiasm.

Dr. Sheri Doniger, editor of PennWell Publishing's Woman Dentist Journal, will be leading the AAWD race team as team captain. She encourages all individuals interested in running/walking on the Hu-Friedy/AAWD team to visit the Hu-Friedy Race Web page at http://race.y-me.org/hufriedy and sign up as a part of her team.

By becoming part of the team, participants will not only be supporting an important cause, but they will also receive lots of bonus goodies! Hu-Friedy is working hard to make RACE day a celebration. A Hu-Friedy tent will be set up for team members to meet and socialize before and after the race. Snacks, t-shirts and other goodies will be provided.

A festive atmosphere is guaranteed. The race is a great way to connect and socialize, and it is a very family-friendly event (after all, it is Mother's Day!). Everyone is encouraged to share the excitement with friends and family members.
