Upcoming Dental Assistants Recognition Week highlights dental assistants’ drive to learn

Feb. 18, 2020
DANB and the DALE Foundation can help dental assistants look toward the future and achieve their career goals. Learn about some special DARW promotions and educational opportunities here.

Dental assistants across the country will celebrate their profession during Dental Assistants Recognition Week (DARW) from March 1–7, as designated by the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA). The Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) and the DALE Foundation, the official DANB affiliate, are supporting organizations for DARW 2020.

This year’s theme for DARW, “A 20/20 Dental Assistant–Looking Toward the Future,” acknowledges the growing importance of dentistry’s role in health care and the many critical responsibilities delegated to most dental assistants, such as infection control and patient education. Dental assistants appreciate DARW as a time to recognize the dental assisting profession and the hardworking assistants who give so much every day.

“Being recognized as an important part of the dental health-care team means a lot,” says Debbie R., CDA. “During DARW, I feel I’m genuinely respected for being a valued professional.”

Many successful dental assistants know that by continuing their education and earning credentials, including DANB certification, they are able to enhance their valuable contributions to the dental practice. In the spirit of this year’s DARW theme, some dental assistants are inspired this time of year to consider their professional ambitions.

“DARW is an important time for recognizing how important of a career we have, and to remember to continue to strive toward achieving our goals,” says Calista S., CDA, EFDA, who works as a dental assisting educator. During DARW, Calista encourages her dental assisting students to participate in educational activities and to take advantage of other resources, such as those available through the DALE Foundation.

Eryn E., CDA, believes DARW is an important annual event that emphasizes one of the best aspects of the role: the ongoing opportunities for learning and advancement. “I’m able to continue my education every day. For me, DARW brings the opportunity to appreciate my career trajectory, as well as my fellow dental assistants.”
