DANB and its official affiliate, the DALE Foundation, are dedicated to public protection and know that dental assistants play an important role in patient safety. Dental assistants are often responsible for critical infection control duties, and may even serve as the dental practice’s infection control coordinator.
In fact, according to DANB’s latest dental assistant survey, 81% of dental assistants who hold DANB’s Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification are responsible for infection control-related tasks, while 74% of non-certified assistants perform these duties.
Whether a dental assistant is new to the profession or has many years of experience, it is important to know proper infection control protocol. DANB and the DALE Foundation offer several resources to support infection control compliance:
• Passing DANB’s Infection Control (ICE) exam (a component of DANB’s CDA, COA and NELDA certifications) is a way to demonstrate knowledge-based competence in infection control.
• The DALE Foundation’s online DANB ICE Review course is a way to prepare for DANB’s ICE exam and earn 12 CDE credits.
• The DALE Foundation’s DANB ICE Practice Test is a way to quiz yourself on infection control topics and prepare for DANB’s ICE exam.
• The DALE Foundation and OSAP collaborated on two infection control resources, each worth two CDE credits in infection control:
Understanding CDC’s Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Setting
General Aspects of Instrument Processing
