What happens when two women dentists take a one-hour bus ride from an airport to a hotel? It is called “First Wednesday” - a webcast Clinical Education Study Club by women dentists for women dental professionals. “First Wednesday” was conceived and designed by Drs. Linda Niessen and Lori Trost when they recently traveled together from Albany, N.Y., to Lake George, N.Y.

Dentsply Clinical Education and the American Association of Women Dentists are proud to present “First Wednesday.” This exciting new program will be presented on the first Wednesday of each month. Now you can earn CE credits from the comfort of your own home on a variety of topics presented by experts.

“We are very excited about ‘First Wednesday,’” said Jean Furuyama, DDS, president of the American Association of Women Dentists. “This program is a perfect fit for our members. It provides top-notch education in a completely relaxed setting. All the participant needs is a telephone and a computer with a fast connection. Thanks so much to Dr. Linda Niessen of Dentsply and a past president of the AAWD; Dr. Lori Trost, AAWD member and editor of Woman Dentist Journal; Dr. Risé Lyman of the AAWD; and Cynthia Hospador of Dentsply Prosthetics Clinical Education for making this happen and bringing this wonderful benefit to women dentists across the United States.”

Mark your calendar for these upcoming events - all programs will be held the first Wednesday of each month at 9 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m. Central, 7 p.m. Mountain, and 6 p.m. Pacific time.

Our kick-off program, held on Oct. 6, featured Dr. Lynn Jones on “Simple and Elegant Direct Restoratives.” Dr. Jones is an accredited member and an examiner with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She is the founder and director of “Aesthetics, a Live Patient Continuum” for the University of Washington, Department of Continuing Dental Education. Dr. Jones maintains a full-time cosmetic and reconstructive dental practice in Bellevue, Wash.

The program for Nov. 3 is yet to be announced, so watch for more information about that exciting program in Woman Dentist Journal and the “Chronicle.”

On Dec. 1, we are proud to welcome AAWD past president Dr. Cherilyn Sheets on “Zirconium-based Crown and Bridge Materials.” Dr. Sheets is co-executive director of the Newport Coast Oral Facial Institute, an international nonprofit teaching and research center, considered to be one of the finest microsurgical training centers in the world. She is also a clinical professor of restorative dentistry at the USC School of Dentistry and is on its Board of Counselors. In partnership with the University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Engineering, Dr. Sheets is leading an ongoing research project involving energy dissipation in natural teeth and dental implants. She is also president of Perimetrics, LLC, a manufacturing company for the Periometer instrumentation she developed with Dr. James C. Earthman, and which has been under evaluation at the Newport Coast Oral Facial Institute since 1997.

One continuing-education credit will be provided to participants. For more information or to RSVP, call Cynthia Hospador at (800) 877-0020, Ext. 4420.

See you on the first Wednesday!
