This is what we all strive to do. This is a column created to embody a hands-on approach toward user-friendly solutions for our lives. Each month I discuss concepts relating to women dentists, their lives, and their work. I focus on alternative dental products, Web sites, books, concepts, and organizations that simplify our world.

Zone Eugenol-Free Temporary Cement mixes easily and is kind to the pulp. We’ve had no postoperative sensitivity when we’ve used it. Unit dose packages prevent cross contamination. Each packet contains base and catalyst for perfect measure and accurate mixing. It doesn’t affect resin or acrylic temporary properties or interfere with bonding procedures. Packets may be dispensed to patients if there is concern of temporary failure or if patients are traveling while provisionalized. Visit www.duxdental.com.

3M’s ESPE Protemp Crown Temporization Material is an acrylic resin composite restoration formed to the shape of your single-tooth preparation and cured to set. For use with molar, premolar, or cuspids, the temporaries come in sizes to fit the mesial-distal width of the preparation. Being a malleable resin, the crown is custom-fitted onto the preparation and adapted by hand and plastic-forming instruments to the margins. Light curing outside the mouth is necessary to set the resin. Finishing is easily accomplished with a standard composite polishing regimen. Visit www.3mespe.com/innovation.

Are you ready for your child’s higher education? There is a great Web site, Saving for College, that offers tips on when to start saving and options you have in your planning. We were lucky: Erin went to Western Michigan University on a swimming scholarship, but Ryan’s education at Northwestern University made up for the college funds we saved with Erin. As other financial obligations sometimes overshadow college funds, we need to be prepared to give our children what they will need. Visit www.savingforcollege.com.
