FOCUS Editorial Director Maria Perno Goldie, RDH, MS, has been busy the last few weeks with trips to Miami, Fla., Madrid, Spain, and Rome, Italy. The last few weeks have been busy with travel. I attended the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) meeting in Miami in October. It was a very informative meeting that was “kicked off” by Dr. Donald Clem, now Immediate Past President. His address to the audience was both provocative and inspirational. Dr. Clem cautioned those in the profession to embrace change and move with the times. His address will be in the January 2012 issue of the AAP Journal. I strongly urge you to read it. Donald S. Clem III, DDS, Inc. shares a practice with Nelson T. Yen, DDS, MS, Inc. called Regenerative Solutions. Read more about the meeting in the various sections of this newsletter.
The next meeting I attended was the 2011 “Premium Day” in Madrid, Spain.
This was an implant meeting hosted by Sweden & Martina, a dental implant company based in Italy. There was a track dedicated to dental hygienists, where I presented a course on implant maintenance. There was also a track for laboratory technicians, and the largest track was for dentists who actually place implants.

I am now in Rome preparing to present a course on Salivary Diagnostics at the Unione Nazionale Igienisti Dentali (UNID) meeting here in Italy. UNID is one of three dental hygienists associations in Italy.

Enjoy the newsletter!

Sincerely,
