Greetings, colleagues! I want to take a moment to introduce myself as someone you’ll be hearing more from in upcoming newsletters. My name is Bethany Montoya, and I am honored to serve as the new editorial director for Through the Loupes. I’m a practicing RDH based in Fort Worth, Texas, and when I’m not providing patient care, I’m writing research-based articles for publication, reviewing and promoting dental products, speaking and lecturing, and serving the industry as a key opinion leader. I also created and maintain a social media brand called @HumanRDH, where I focus on the “human” aspect of our field that oftentimes is overlooked as we strive to serve our patients, team, and business.
Over the years, I’ve worked in large practices, small practices, thriving practices, and struggling practices. I’ve gained specialized experience in general restorative dentistry, complex cosmetic dentistry, single- and multi-implant cases, and periodontics. Currently, I work alongside a phenomenal team providing oral appliance therapy in a board-certified dental sleep medicine practice. I absolutely love the privilege we have of providing dental solutions for a variety of major medical diseases and lifestyle issues. I plan on sharing some of my experience and insight with this growing specialty in the months to come.
My vision for the future of Through the Loupes is to discuss real-life clinical issues and their solutions, highlight patient case studies, share emerging technology and science, and—most of all—inspire unity within the dental team. Whether you are a dentist, assistant, hygienist, or administrative team member, your contributions to the daily operations of the practice are critical and vital. With the unstable state of today’s dental workforce, it’s never been more important to recognize the knowledge, expertise, and skill that each individual provides for the overall success of the business. Your role matters—and we want to provide content that supports the work you do.
I’m excited to see what the future holds for the Through the Loupes community! Please feel free to reach out if you would like to connect, provide feedback, or if you have content that you would like to share with our readers. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your daily clinical life. It’s better when we see things through the loupes!
