The March 2002 issue of Dental Equipment & Materials contained a story entitled "Whitening Update." Within the article, the authors mention that no study has shown that very high-intensity plasma arc curing lights and argon lasers are more effective than traditional bleaching methods. In the following weeks, an abstract from the Journal of Dental Research was brought to our attention which details a profile of 20 subjects performed by researchers at Loma Linda University. Their research concludes that "light application significantly enhances the efficacy of the bleaching gel; there were no significant clinical adverse effects; and the enhanced bleaching efficacy is more evident for mandibular anterior teeth."
