Heraeus Kulzer’s Next™ endodontic obturating system

Next is a complete kit that streamlines root canal therapy for endodontists and general practice dentists alike. This is achieved thanks to advanced materials and an innovative two-in-one post/obturator system. It allows dentists to obturate and seal the canal in a simple step. A rigid or adaptable obturator serves as support for the root and, in some cases, a post for restorations. Resilon™ is integrated into the post, and bonds with a resin cement to create a hermetic seal preventing leakage.

Obturation is achieved through the application of Heraeus Kulzer’s biocompatible resin sealer. Since the obturator also can serve as a post or pin, root canals with restorations can be handled in one visit instead of the two required with traditional root canal methods.

New dentate bur cuts faster, cooler, and smoother

The Samurai Precision Bur is the most efficient of all burs, including other dentate designs. It cuts faster, lasts longer, cuts cooler, leaves a smoother finish, spins truer, is less traumatic, decreases turbine wear and has a wider range of applications than any other bur in existence. It easily slices through enamel, dentin, amalgam, composite, porcelain and metal without clogging or chattering.

It enters enamel from the tip or side. The Samurai rapidly wastes enamel during crown preparation, is ideal for endo access, amalgam removal, cavity preparation and slot cutting through gold, base metal, and porcelain, all while increasing tactile sensitivity. This cost-effective disposable bur is available exclusively from SimpleDental. To order, call (800) 454-5161 or visit simpledental.com.

Liberator™ .06 taper now available

Miltex has released Liberator NiTi rotary endodontic files in .06 taper. Due to demand from dentists who wish to finish a root canal with a greater taper, Miltex designed, developed, and manufactured this new product with feedback from key clinicians around the world. It is available in ISO tip sizes from 15 to 70 and lengths of 21 and 25 mm. This size compliments the .02 and .04 taper Liberator instruments that were introduced in December 2004. Liberator files have been proven to eliminate self-threading issues - which can lead to file separation - because there are no helical flutes to screw into the canal. They employ a safe-ended “Roane” tip to minimize ledging.

Two new GC Gradia® Direct composite restoratives

GC AMERICA introduces new Gradia Direct LoFlo and Gradia Direct Flo, light-cured flowable composites. These multi-purpose light-cured composites are both radiopaque, fluoride-releasing, highly filled micro-hybrid resins. Two self-adapting formulas have been designed to best accommodate every application (technique) requirement.

Gradia Direct LoFlo takes advantage of GC’s new HDR (High Density Radiopaque Pre-polymerized Filler) technology. This allows for excellent radiopacity while providing physical properties (strength and wear) similar to traditional composites, with exceptionally low shrinkage and optimal flow characteristics minimizing risk of contraction stress and microleakage.

Gradia Flo, a less viscous version, is typically used to restore undercuts, as a liner/base under direct restoratives, and as a 60-second sealant when used in conjunction with GC G-Bond™ one-component self-etching light-lured adhesive.

Both products are packaged in 1.5 gm syringes, either two or four per box, with four tips. Both come in seven shades: A1, A2, A3, A3.5, AO3, CV (Cervical Color), and BW (Bleaching White).

Adhesive Newsletter library online

Authored for more than 15 years by research director Nelson Gendusa, DDS, Parkell’s Adhesive Newsletter is an informal eight-page clinical update written for the practicing dentist. Described as largely nonpromotional with an easy-to-read, humorous style, it includes technique hints, answers questions submitted by readers, and reviews new research with significant clinical implications.

The Adhesive Newsletter was the first US publication for general dentists to discuss the role of the hybrid layer in bonding and to warn how sensitivity-prone the 5th-generation bonding agents were (including Parkell’s own 5th-generation material.) It doesn’t hesitate to disagree with lecturers or researchers when, in Dr. Gendusa’s opinion, the evidence doesn’t support their positions. Several years worth of prior issues are now posted on www.parkell.com for downloading.

Breakthrough sensitivity treatment receives FDA approval

SootheRx™ is the first FDA-cleared, at-home-use prescription therapy indicated for both the rapid and continual relief of dentinal hypersensitivity. SootheRx uses NovaMin® (calcium sodium phosphosilicate), a technology resulting from 30 years of medical research into bone and tooth repair. The same compound has been successfully used in more than one million bone-regeneration surgeries.

While the biggest clinical benefit of SootheRx is its ability to provide both rapid and continual relief from sensitivity by occluding tubules with hydroxyapatite, its simplicity makes it even more appealing. SootheRx is used twice daily for two weeks in place of the patient’s usual toothpaste. Following this initial treatment stage, a once-per-week use is all that is required. Patients can use their dentifrice of choice or one you recommend for daily brushing.
