Orthodontic system combines 3-D diagnostic imaging with computerized treatment planning and robotic archwire customization.
RICHARDSON, Texas--SureSmile, an orthodontic system cthat ombines 3-D diagnostic imaging with computerized treatment planning and robotic archwire customization, has added a new capability to its upcoming software release, SureSmile6.0. New features allow orthodontists to plan and visualize the final root positions in the supporting bone. Visualization of and planning with bone is just one of the more than 30 new customer requested features in SureSmile 6.0. The software is currently in beta testing and will is scheduled to launch at a SureSmile conference in March 2012 in Dallas, Texas.“SureSmile 6.0 will be the first and only orthodontic system to incorporate the ability for the orthodontist to plan for the positions of roots in the supporting bone into their 3-D treatment plan," said Rohit Sachdeva, chief clinical officer, OraMetrix, maker of SureSmile. "Until now, orthodontists could only estimate how their treatment will affect root positions in the supporting bone. This new capability will revolutionize how orthodontists plan and treat patients.”SureSmile 6.0, in combination with CBCT scans, provides orthodontists sophisticated treatment planning tools to provide patients a high level of care. The SureSmile orthodontic treatment system enables doctors to proactively plan tooth movement on virtual digital models and customize prescriptive archwires for more precise and efficient treatment.“SureSmile 6.0 enables me to see a rendering of the bone support for each tooth before I make any movements so that I can target the optimal position for the root of the tooth,” said Dr. J. Peter Kierl, of Edmond, Okla., one of the orthodontists participating in the SureSmile 6.0 beta testing. “This tool allows me to better set boundaries of movements for teeth so I can give my patients the best results for their particular bone structure. I am also able to show patients, dentists and other specialists detailed visualizations of the final positions prior to moving the teeth.”Technology revolutionizes jaw surgeryAdded Dr. Katie Graber, of Chicago, Ill.: “The lip trace function where you see the model in the face for smile arc design and the gingival tissue visualization with the i-CAT therapeutic scan are very valuable to me. It allows me to visually design my treatment target for each patient's individual facial aesthetics."For patients who need restorative treatment, SureSmile 6.0 has the capability to simulate tooth reshaping, crowns, tooth replacement, mesial and distal build up of teeth and restoration of incisal edges of teeth. Now patients and referring doctors can see and understand how their teeth will be reshaped after orthodontic treatment. “SureSmile 6.0 and its ground-breaking capability to help doctors plan root position in the bone is a game-changer for orthodontics," said Charles Abraham, CEO, OraMetrix. “We are very proud to be the first to bring these capabilities to market.” For more information, go to www.suresmile.com.To comment on this product, go to community.pennwelldentalgroup.com/.
