Ask Dr. Christensen: Is zirconia suitable for three-unit fixed prostheses?

April 7, 2016
Dr. Gordon Christensen shares his years of clinical knowledge in everyday practice with his peers in a series of videos. Here he discusses whether zirconia is suitable for three-unit fixed prostheses.

Dr. Christensen begins this video by showing a photo of a three-unit full zirconia fixed partial denture. He says this has become predominant the last few years throughout the laboratory industry. The zirconia bridge has just about replaced porcelain-fused-to-metal.

How acceptable is it? Dr. Christensen’s organization has been watching zirconia for many years, and he reports that it’s looking very good.

The advantages include less aggressive tooth preparation, less expense, exceedingly strong material, and ease of use. Dr. Christensen has found them to be very viable replacements for porcelain-fused-to-metal. Watch the video to learn more.
