Discus Dental introduces Nuance

May 7, 2010
New composite and syringe deliver a simple solution.
CULVER CITY, California--Discus Dental has announced release of a new nanohybrid, universal composite, Nuance. Nuance helps make creating esthetic restorations simple by combining proprietary filler particles that mimic the optical properties of tooth structure, with handling, and a delivery system.“We are thrilled to launch Nuance. Discus is well known for its focus on esthetics, so it is no surprise that our composite material would help dentists create life-like restorations.” said Steve Semmelmayer, CEO of Discus Dental. “But to be able to create a product that will save dentist’s time and effort and still achieve results that they can be incredibly proud of is really exciting.”Nuance almost eliminates the need for multi-shade layering. The material contains proprietary multi-faceted fillers that reflect and refract light, mimicking the opacity, translucency, and optical characteristics of tooth structure. Therefore, in thinner areas such as the incisal edge, it appears translucent, while on the main tooth body it absorbs and refracts light creating a dentin-like depth. Thus, one body shade can be used for the entire restoration rather than needing to layer dentin, body, and enamel shades. To further simplify the restoration, its chameleon-like quality helps ensure that Nuance integrates optically with the surrounding tooth structure, so it produces an accurate shade match. Nuance has a butter-like consistency so it sculpts smoothly and easily, yet doesn’t slump. It is not sticky, so you won’t be slowed down by having to reshape anatomy or clean instruments. The new Nuance syringe was designed from the ground up to further simplify the restoration process. It is rectangular, making it easy to grip when extruding material. The syringe requires approximately half the force of the leading composite to extrude material and has soft rubber pads for turning. In addition to these advanced ergonomic features, it offers dispensing capability. The Nuance syringe comes with 4 g of material. But with every half turn (identified with a click), it delivers a unit dose of ~.1g of material. This makes communication between dentist and assistant easier and creates less waste. The Nuance syringe come with a flip-top, flat cap so the syringe can stand up easily on the tray, and the cap can’t be lost.“Discus is focused on becoming the premier supplier of innovative dental materials and ergonomic, advanced small devices,” said Semmelmayer. “Nuance certainly meets these goals and will help to drive us towards our goal of becoming the No. 1 direct dental supplier.”Samples of Nuance are available at www.discusdental.com/nuance.php.
