DANB Shows Its Stuff

The Dental Assisting National Board, Inc., exhibits at several dental meetings and conventions throughout the year, and always enjoys meeting dental assistants and DANB Certificants.

Many dental assistants know the benefits of attending dental meetings and conventions. They provide multiple opportunities to earn continuing dental education (CDE) credits, as well as great chances to network and catch up with colleagues and friends. It’s also an opportune time for dental assistants to preview some of the latest dental products on the tradeshow floor.

The Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (DANB) exhibits at several dental meetings and conventions throughout the year. DANB always enjoys meeting dental assistants and DANB Certificants at these meetings and conventions. At the DANB booth, DANB has informational materials and giveaways for dental assistants, including Candidate Guides, copies of the Certified Press newsletter, information from DANB’s state publications, tote bags and pens, and special gifts for DANB Certified Assistants. DANB can also answer any questions that a visitor to DANB’s booth may have about DANB exams or certification.

Visitors can also receive information about current e-learning opportunities, like DANB’s Conventional Dental Radiography Review Course and DANB’s Assessment-Based Certificate Program (ABCP): Accounts Receivable. Future e-learning courses will be offered through the newly-established DALE Foundation, a DANB-affiliated nonprofit educational and research foundation.

This year, DANB has an especially full convention calendar. In January, DANB exhibited at the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention in Denver and the Yankee Dental Congress in Boston. DANB is a longtime exhibitor at these shows, and enjoys speaking with all of the DANB Certificants, dental assistants, dentists and educators who visit the booth.

In February, DANB was honored to present at the American Dental Educators Association Annual Session in Washington, D.C. DANB’s program, “Show Me the Evidence: Using Item and Exam Statistics to Determine if Exam Assessments Work,” was delivered by past DANB Board Chair Brenda Fell, CDA, CDPMA; DANB Director of Testing and Measurement Johnna Gueorguieva; and DANB Chief Operating Officer Liz Koch. “The program was designed to help educators learn more about how classroom assessments can better identify what students know and don’t know – which, in turn, can make them better educators,” Gueorguieva said.

DANB also delivered a presentation at the Hinman Dental Meeting in Atlanta in March. The presentation was held in the morning and afternoon – and at both sessions, the room was packed. DANB explained the process of how to apply for DANB national exams, as well as highlighted ways to prepare for the exam and the benefits to maintaining DANB Certification. The presentation also addressed the American Dental Association’s proposed Oral Preventive Assistant model.

In April, DANB will be exhibiting for the first time at the Michigan Dental Association Annual Session, which will be held in Novi, Michigan in conjunction with the Michigan Dental Assistants Association (MDAA) Annual Session. The meeting will be held April 14-17; on Friday, April 16, DANB will be delivering its “Becoming a CDA” presentation, as well as attending the MDAA Student Day. DANB will conclude its springtime activity by exhibiting at the Minnesota Dental Association’s Star of the North Meeting in St. Paul on April 22-24.
