About DANB’s RHS Review Course
DANB’s RHS Review Course covers important topics related to both conventional film and digital dental radiation health and safety. The self-paced, interactive review course covers basic anatomical landmarks, radiation biology and safety issues, elements of radiographic exposure equipment, errors encountered in radiographic exposure, radiographic labeling, and infection control techniques. The course is intended for chairside assistants or dental assisting students with varying degrees of dental radiography knowledge.

“DANB is excited to provide additional e-learning courses to dental assistants, dental office managers and dental professionals,” said DANB’s Executive Director Cindy Durley, MEd, MBA. “DANB’s RHS Review Course can be one of the tools used to prepare for the Radiation Health and Safety component of the Certified Dental Assistant Exam, or as CDE to meet DANB's Recertification Requirements. In mid-2011, DANB will transfer the rights to this course to the separately incorporated, DANB-affiliated nonprofit organization, the DALE Foundation. In the meantime, DANB's RHS Review Course is available to those dental assistants who are looking for an interactive, self-paced RHS review course.” (For more information about the DALE Foundation, please see the section below.)

By the end of the course, learners will be able to identify major anatomical landmarks of the teeth, jaws, oral cavity, and adjacent structures of the skull, recognize basic radiation biology concepts, practice radiation safety procedures for both the operator and patients, manipulate key components of radiographic exposure equipment, identify and correct common intraoral and extraoral radiographic exposure errors, manipulate key components of radiographic film processing equipment and digital imaging equipment, identify and correct common radiographic processing errors, mount and label dental radiographs, apply effective infection control techniques and identify necessary Quality Assurance procedures.

In January 2010, DANB launched its first two e-learning courses: DANB’s Conventional Dental Radiography Review Course and DANB’s Assessment-Based Certificate Program (ABCP): Accounts Receivable, which are also available at www.danb.org/learning. The DALE Foundation
In order to better meet the needs of dental assistants and other members of the dental team in the areas of supplemental education and professional research, DANB has established a separately incorporated nonprofit foundation. On March 17th, 2010, the Dental Auxiliary Learning and Education (DALE) Foundation filed its articles of incorporation. The DALE Foundation will support the work of DANB for the advancement of dental assistants, the promotion of certification for dental assistants and the benefit of the public by developing and providing quality education and conducting sound research to support and promote oral health. DANB will transfer the rights of the current e-learning courses to the DALE Foundation in 2011. Look for more information on the DALE Foundation in the fall issue of Certified Press!
