AAWD unveils 2005 partial schedule for "First Wednesday" Women's CE Web casts
The American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD) has unveiled topics for the first five meetings of the 2005 First Wednesday Women's Dental Study Club, a web-based initiative designed to provide convenient on-line access to CE for women dental professionals.
This new CE initiative provides AAWD members access to a one-hour, interactive webcast session on the first Wednesday of each month. It targets the increasing number of women dentists who are trying to juggle professional and personal schedules.
The sessions address timely clinical subjects, such as direct restoratives, implants and all-ceramic materials. Each session features a leading clinician using a PowerPoint presentation to illustrate the clinical cases, techniques and/or solutions. A question and answer period follows. These interactive programs simulate a lecture-based format, while allowing practitioners to participate from the convenience of their home or office.
The schedule for the first five sessions of 2005 is as follows:
Jan. 5, 2005
"Restoration and Retention of Severely Resorbed Anterior Teeth"
Rhonda Savage, DDS
Feb. 2, 2005
"Improving Communication in the Dental Office"
Robin Wright
March 2, 2005
"Perfect Provisionals: First Time, Every Time"
Lynn Jones, DDS
April 6, 2005
"Root Caries: Diagnosis & Treatment"
Gretchen Gibson, DDS
May 4, 2005
"Non-injectable Anesthetics: An Update"
Marie George, RDH

The program is co-sponsored by the Woman Dentist Journal and DENTSPLY International Clinical Education. It debuted in October with Dr. Lynn Jones, from Seattle, WA, discussing "Simple and Elegant Direct Restoratives." Dr. Cherilyn Sheets will present "Zirconia-Based Crown and Bridge Materials: Principles and Properties" on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004.
Dr. Lori Trost, editor of Woman Dentist Journal, who helped conceive the program, says, "First Wednesday provides women practitioners with an opportunity to stay current using the latest educational innovation. It offers participants an enjoyable way to benefit from distance-learning technology and interact with a leading clinician. And our 2005 schedule is shaping up to be one of real substance and impact."
Programs begin at 9 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m. Central, 7 p.m. Mountain and 6 p.m. Pacific times. There is no cost for these sessions. Participants can enroll on-line by visiting: https://dentsplyeventsce.webex.com.
