SANTA CLARA, California--Align Technology, Inc., the inventor of Invisalign, has announced the publication of the first textbook based on the Invisalign system.
The Invisalign System, published by Quintessence Publishing, was edited by Dr. Orhan Tuncay, Chairman and Director of the Graduate program of the Department of Orthodontics at Temple University, and includes contributed materials from 30 authors.
Invisalign is a proprietary method of straightening teeth without wires or brackets.
"Clinicians know a great deal about the material properties of wires, bonding agents, and differences in wire size, alloy and fatigue. Yet comparatively little exists about the Invisalign system," said Dr. Tuncay.
"Understanding the properties of the material, the software, biology and office set-up is essential to manipulating the appliance effectively; and this textbook is designed to address the complete system -- it is not a 'how-to' manual."
The textbook includes chapters on the history of the Invisalign system, Invisalign aligner material and manufacturing, ClinCheck software, Align's quality control measures, diagnostics, tooth movement mechanics in various scenarios and Invisalign office design and technology. Each chapter is authored by experienced Invisalign practitioners, former and current Align employees, and dental industry experts.
Dr. Tuncay is a member of Align Technology's Academic Advisory Board. He is known for his work on the biology of tooth movement, meta analyses, facial esthetics, and 3D imaging and animation of the human face.
"In 34 years of academic experience, I have never seen a more academically-focused and responsible company than Align Technology," said Dr. Tuncay. "This textbook brings the Invisalign system to the major league, next to the straight-wire technique."
