Loose teeth that prevent your ability to eat what you want. Painful swelling that hurts constantly, and becomes almost unbearable when you eat and drink. Infections that can become medical emergencies. Losing your teeth and needing expensive (and painful) replacement.

If all of that sounds pretty awful to deal with, I can tell you that it is. Severe gum disease, or periodontitis, is something we see at the dental office way more often than we’d like.

The good news is, that won’t happen to you overnight. In fact, you’ll see signs of gum disease that you’ll be able to treat well before it gets to that stage.

In this gallery, I share six signs to look for that can keep a treatable issue from becoming a major problem.
