OSAP to present webinar on the hepatitis C virus this August

July 22, 2015
OSAP's HCV webinar will educate dental care professionals on new HCV therapies, HCV surveillance, and more.
The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP), the advocate for The Safest Dental Visit, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), is presenting a webinar on the hepatitis C virus (HCV) on August 19, 12:00-1:30 p.m. CDT. The goal of the webinar is to bring dental teams up to date with HCV and new HCV therapies. HCV can survive in the environment for 16 hours on a dry surface and can be detected in saliva. It is important that clinicians understand the disease, know how to identify it, and understand how to follow up for HCV and other blood borne pathogens after a needle stick injury.

The HCV webinar will give dental health care providers up-to-date information on the natural history and epidemiology of HCV, new HCV therapies, recent screening guidelines from CDC, surveillance for HCV, health care-related hepatitis infections and prevention options, and recommendations for needle stick injury response.

The webinar is being presented by Anne Moorman, BSN, MPH. Moorman is an epidemiologist in the Division of Viral Hepatitis at CDC. Currently, she is one of the division staff leading the investigation of health care-associated hepatitis infections and has helped develop current guidance on these investigations in partnership with state public health departments and colleagues in CDC’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion. She has contributed to more than 70 scientific articles for peer-reviewed journals during her two decades at CDC, including 12 recent articles describing health care-associated hepatitis transmissions and outbreaks.

The webinar registration fee is $50 and the course carries 1.5 CE credits. To register, visit: https://www.etouches.com/133687.
