Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute to receive sintering oven, zirconia blanks to benefit dental technology students.
NEWPORT BEACH, California—Glidewell Laboratories, a provider of dental lab products and services, has announced donation of a Prismatik CZ6 Sintering Oven to the Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute. The institute is the only government-funded career retraining school in California that offers a dental technology program. Glidewell is also donating a number of zirconia blanks that students can use to mill crowns and bridges as a part of their education.“The school was unable to work on all-zirconia restorations because they did not have a proper oven, so they would miss out on learning half of the restoration process,” said Wilma Peterson, CDT, manager of education at Glidewell. “Now they can complete an entire zirconia crown in the classroom.“Glidewell Laboratories President and CEO Jim Glidewell is excited about giving back and sharing his success. These students are the future of the dental technology industry, and he was in their shoes more than 40 years ago, so he wants to do all he can to cultivate the next generation of dental technicians.”The Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute is the adult education division of the Simi Valley Unified School District. The school enrolls more than 11,000 students a year, about half of whom are pursuing a wide variety of occupational training programs. The Prismatic CZ6 Sintering Oven being donated to the Simi Valley school offers precise temperature control up to 1,600 degrees Celsius. It also features a heavy-duty, double-shell design to help ensure minimal outside furnace temperature influence and ceramic fiberboard lining for energy efficiency.Zirconia is growing in popularity among dentists who seek an esthetic, more-durable alternative to porcelain crowns and bridges.
