British Dental Health 40th
The British Dental Health Foundation will reach a milestone when the foundation celebrates its 40th anniversary Oct. 14, 2011.
Established in Jack E. Manning’s London West End Dental Practice on Oct. 14, 1971, "The Association for the Preservation of Dental Health Limited" was incorporated. It operated under the name of British Dental Health Foundation. Forty years later, the foundation has grown into a leading independent oral health charity in the UK.
Foundation President Daniel Davis said: “It is an honor for me to be a part of the foundation on such a milestone occasion. I am very proud to follow in the footsteps of my father, John M. Davis, who was one of the founding members of the foundation in 1971.
“Since its formation, the foundation has made great strides in improving oral health through ever-evolving channels, and it is testament to everyone involved with the foundation throughout the last 40 years that we find ourselves on the cusp of such a significant date. With a renewed purpose and greater resolve than ever before to improve oral health, I fully expect the next 40 years to be just as dynamic and just as successful in achieving our goals.”
Chief Executive Dr. Nigel Carter also commented on the significance of the anniversary.
“At a time when we are witnessing a slowdown in public spending and stringent budget cuts, the existence of the Foundation is more important than ever. In our fortieth year we plan to mark the occasion in a variety of ways, all of which will work towards our collective goal of improving oral health,” Dr. Carter said.

Today, the British Dental Health Foundation remains an independent charity. Along with its global arm, the International Dental Health Foundation, the foundation continues to strive to improve the oral health of the public.
It does so by providing free and impartial dental advice, by running educational campaigns, and by informing and influencing the public, profession, and government on issues such as mouth cancer awareness and fluoridation.
