Dental Optimize begins selling healthy Halloween candy in the form of cavity-fighting lollipops on its dental education website.

PORTLAND, Oregon--Dental Optimizer will begin selling healthy Halloween candy in the form of cavity-fighting lollipops on dental education website shop.dentaloptimizer.com.

The healthy Halloween candy was developed by microbiologists in the Department of Oral Biology at the University of California-Los Angeles School of Dentistry and C3 Jian. The active ingredient is a specific herbal formula extracted from licorice root that targets Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans)--the primary bacteria responsible for cavities and tooth decay. The final product is a sweet, orange-flavor lollipop.

“The mission of our company is to help people have healthier mouths and understand what they can do to prevent dental disease,” said Rachel Picado, president of Dental Optimizer. “Providing access to healthy Halloween candy in the form of cavity-fighting lollipops is one more way to fulfill this mission.”

Added Dr. William Ten Pas, DMD, former president of the ADA and a senior executive at Dental Optimizer’s parent company: “Tooth decay is the most common chronic infectious disease in children in the United States. The lollipops are one tool in our arsenal for fighting this disease when used as suggested and in combination with regular dental visits.”
