IMAHelps China mission
RANCHO MIRAGE, California--A Southern California nonprofit group seeks a pediatrician and a gynecologist for an upcoming medical humanitarian mission to the province of Qinghai in China¹s Tibetan Plateau.
Rancho Mirage-based IMAHelps has already assembled a team of about 20 doctors, nurses, and support personnel who have agreed to volunteer their time and talents on the mission from Sept. 5-17, 2011.
"We will be visiting one of the poorest regions of China, where it¹s common to see people with pneumonia, malnutrition, and dehydration," said Ping Tung Cheung, a physician¹s assistant from Garfield Medical Center in Alhambra, Calif., who is coordinating the mission.
Cheung has experience organizing medical missions in China and regularly schedules opportunities for U.S. doctors and dentists to not only treat indigent patients but to provide education and training to Chinese doctors regarding some of the latest innovations in Western medicine.

In addition to volunteering their time and talents, volunteers in IMA¹s China mission will be expected to pay for their airfare and share the cost of hotel rooms, food, and transportation with other volunteers while in China. These costs, though, are low compared to travel costs in Western countries.
Formerly known as International Medical Alliance, IMAHelps is a nonprofit organization that recruits doctors from medical disciplines to volunteer their time and talents to make a difference in the lives of children and adults with limited economic means, both in the U.S. and overseas.
