Colgate relief from dentin hypersensitivity

Clinical proof shows that the desensitizing paste provides relief from dentin hypersensitivity.

New data presented at the International Association for Dental Research meeting reinforces clinical proof that supports the efficacy of Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief desensitizing paste provides relief from dentin hypersensitivity.

The study compared improvements in dentin hypersensitivity after application of Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief (fluoride-free desensitizing paste containing 8% arginine and calcium carbonate) with MI Paste Plus (casein phosphopeptide and amorphous calcium phosphate paste containing fluoride), and a negative control paste (Nupro-M, fluoride-free prophylaxis paste) immediately following a dental scaling and four weeks post-treatment.

The results were:

* Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief desensitizing paste patients experienced significantly less tactile hypersensitivity. When compared to patients who received MI Paste Plus, those who were treated with Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief experienced less discomfort, marked by a 56.7% improvement in tactile hypersensitivity scores immediately following application and a 59.9% improvement in scores four weeks after application.

* Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief desensitizing paste patients experienced significantly less air blast hypersensitivity. Compared to those treated with MI Paste Plus, Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief patients also experienced a 40.9% reduction in dentin hypersensitivity scores after initial use and a 54.3% reduction in scores four weeks later.

* Subjects treated with the MI Paste Plus did not exhibit statistically significant reductions in hypersensitivity scores relative to the negative control. Results immediately after treatment indicate a 1.7% reduction in tactile sensitivity and a 0.0% reduction in air blast sensitivity. Four weeks after treatment, percentage improvements in discomfort levels were reported as 2.7% and -5.5%, respectively.

Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief desensitizing paste is clinically proven in the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity, a condition found in up to 57% of dental patients worldwide. The Pro-Argin Technology in Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief desensitizing paste uses arginine and calcium carbonate to promote precipitation of calcium and phosphate ions to form a calcium rich layer that binds to the dentin surface and into the tubules to help plug and seal them. This addresses the cause of pain and discomfort associated with hypersensitivity.

With one application of Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief desensitizing paste, dental professionals can provide their patients with relief for four weeks.

This product allows patients with sensitive teeth to not only visit the dentist in comfort and receive the care they need, but also to avoid the pain associated with dentin hypersensitivity for weeks to come.
