Patient Resource cancer guide now available at retail bookstores

Cancer patients can access vital information at more than 800 Barnes & Noble and Borders locations across the country.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri--The 2007 debut of a comprehensive cancer treatment and facilities guide for patients and their families has been viewed as a successful publishing launch.

So much so, company officials say, that the next step in getting this information into the hands of those who need it most seemed clear: national retail distribution.

Patient Resource Publishing founder Linette Atwood has announced that the Patient Resource Cancer Guide is available for purchase at major bookstores across the country.

"We are very pleased to make this guide available in all the major chain bookstores," Atwood said. "It means we are touching hundreds of thousands of cancer patients and their family members where they already find themselves shopping on a regular basis."

The cancer guide sells for $6.95 at retail and on the publication's Web site. It is distributed free of charge at more than 7,000 oncology offices and cancer treatment facilities nationally.

"Our goal is simple: We want every cancer patient in America to have access to the vital information contained in Patient Resource," Atwood said. "We want to arm cancer patients with the tools they need to make informed medical decisions."

Content in this cancer guide is supervised by Medical Editor Charles M. Balch, MD, FACS, who serves as professor of Surgery and Oncology at the internationally respected Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore.

"I truly believe that an informed and educated cancer patient will find a way to get the best care ... and live better and longer," said Dr. Balch.
