Align Technology reaches milestone

Now more than one million patients worldwide have completed or are in treatment with the company's Invisalign system.

SANTA CLARA, California--Align Technology has announced a company milestone: shipping its one millionth Invisalign case.

There are now more than one million patients worldwide who have completed or are in treatment with the Invisalign system.

"This is a significant business milestone for us as it demonstrates continued, strong demand for Invisalign, which has evolved into a mainstream treatment option," said Thomas M. Prescott, president and CEO of Align Technology. "With more than a million Invisalign patients and counting, we're continuing to grow the market for clear aligner therapy and expand the Invisalign product family."

Earlier this month, Align shipped its one-millionth case to Dr. James Kohl of Wilmette, Ill. A past president of the Illinois Society of Orthodontists, Dr. Kohl was one of the first doctors to embrace Invisalign in his practice. Last week, Dr. Kohl delivered the first set of Invisalign Teen aligners to the one-millionth patient, 15-year-old high school freshman Julia H.

"It's an honor to share this milestone with Align by treating the millionth patient," said Dr. Kohl, an orthodontist. "Having prescribed Invisalign to many of my adult and teen patients over the years--from very complex to simple cases--I'm a huge believer in this product. It represents the future of orthodontics because it eliminates so many barriers to treatment, giving me an effective tool to delivering a beautiful smile to anyone--from adults who would never consider metal braces to active teens who don't want braces interrupting their busy lives."

Dr. Kohl is treating Julia H. with Invisalign Teen. Developed with orthodontists who understand the active lifestyles and unique treatment needs of teens, the new Invisalign Teen product combines the benefits of the proven Invisalign Full system with new features. Those features include blue Compliance Indicators that are designed to gradually fade as the aligner is worn, Eruption Tabs that accommodate the growth of secondary molars, and other features that address clinical needs common to teen patients.
