ATLANTA – The innovative power of Carestream Dental impressed the 37-member jury of experts for the “red dot award: product design 2013.” The jury members were delighted to receive 4,662 entries in 19 different categories in this year’s competition. Only the best designs were able to win the enthusiasm of the jury, which is how the CS 8100, a digital panoramic imaging system for the dental industry, received the red dot for its successful design creation. “The CS 8100 was designed to meet the needs of the patient, the practitioner and the installer, reducing the footprint of a panoramic imaging system without sacrificing power,” said Sylvie Bothorel, R&D director for Carestream Dental. “The design enables all parties to take advantage of the unit’s compactness and simplicity.” While most other companies outsource the designing of their products to various agencies, Carestream Dental designed the ultra-compact CS 8100 entirely in-house to ensure better control over the final execution of the product. With its very compact footprint, the CS 8100 can be placed in almost any practice – even in the smallest of spaces. In addition to its slim design, one of the most remarkable aspects of the CS 8100’s design is the fact that it takes less than 20 minutes for one person to install the unit, reducing the amount of downtime necessary for installation in practices.RELATED ARTICLE:Carestream Dental unveils CS SolutionsRELATED ARTICLE:Carestream Dental appoints Marc Gordon to GM role The CS 8100 features an open design and a transparent patient support, offering a higher level of comfort for both the patient and the operator. The system’s face-to-face design enables practitioners to have direct eye contact with patients during the procedure and ensures proper positioning. Dental practitioners utilize the CS 8100 to obtain highly detailed and optimally contrasted panoramic images. The system provides a complete range of imaging programs to support practices’ day-to-day needs, including exclusive 2D+ technology that enables practitioners to visualize more details than standard 2-D images reveal. Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot, pointed out that strong design competence and economic success nowadays go hand in hand. “The winners of the ‘red dot award: product design 2013’ are the protagonists of a highly developed design culture and design industry. These days it is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish between well-designed products. It is often only in the details that the special qualities become apparent. However, those product creations that pass the test before the critical eyes of the international red dot jury will not disappear into the crowd and will be able to fend off global competition.”
