Discus Dental Las Vegas Extravaganza a smash

June 7, 2004
More than 2,300 dental professionals were on hand at the recent event at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Discus Dental, Inc., one of the largest direct-to-dentist manufacturers of professional dental products, announced today that over 2,300 dental professionals attended the recent 9th Annual Discus Dental Las Vegas Extravaganza at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The event was kicked off on Friday morning by the Las Vegas Second Baptist Church Gospel Choir performing an inspired rendition of "God Bless America." The choir then introduced Mr. Terry Bradshaw, star NFL quarterback, three-time Super Bowl champion and television personality, who brought the crowd to their feet during an animated, story-filled speech on leadership and teamwork.

The event was highlight by a moving and touching presentation by Time Magazine's 2001 Person of the Year, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He shared his key principles for effective leadership, based on his own experiences as a federal prosecutor and Mayor of New York City during times of both growth and crisis. Mr. Giuliani's powerful program closed as the entire audience numbering over 2,300 sang "Happy Birthday" in celebration of his birthday that weekend.

The Extravaganza closed on Sunday morning following a first time ever panel discussion with the team behind ABC's hit reality show, Extreme Makeover, including the show's creator and Executive Producer Howard Schultz, co-creator Jacqui Pitman, Plastic Surgeons Drs. Tony Griffin and Garth Fischer, Discus Dental's own Dr. Bill Dorfman, and Extreme Makeover patients Kine Corder and Kim Rodriguez. Moderating the discussion was actress and model, Brooke Burke.

The 9th Annual Discus Dental Las Vegas Extravaganza also brought together the most powerful line-up of clinical, hygiene and management speakers in dentistry, including Ed Lowe, Nelson Rego, Michael Miller, Bruce Crispen, Bill Dorfman, Larry Rosenthal, Jimmy Eubank, Mike Koczarski, Lee Culp, Glenn Dupont, Cathy Jameson, Mark Hyman, Dennis Wells, Debra and Dan King, Gary Takacs, Don Lewis, Rebecca Wilder, Kristy Menage-Bernie, John Kwan, Vicki McManus, Amy Mitchell, Pat Wahl, Brian McKay, Rob Ritter, Marilyn Ward, Walter Golub and Bruce Lieberthal.

The Extravaganza also featured a Saturday evening gala headlined by comedian John Pinette who kept the audience laughing out loud with a hilarious comedy routine.

The annual event was called the "best ever" by its organizers, and its efforts helped raise over $68,000 for the Los Angeles-based Children's Dental Center, an non-profit organization which provides dental care to children of low income families.

"It was a tremendous experience for us as well as the participants," says Dr. William Dorfman, co-founder of Discus Dental and one of the clinicians featured on ABC's Extreme Makeover. "It's more than continuing education. It's about celebrating our passion for our chosen profession. I truly believe that there has never been a better time to be a dentist. The resources, the tools, the technology and the awareness of oral health and dental aesthetics are at an all-time high," says Dorfman. "The Discus Dental Extravaganza is a reflection of that, and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger each year."

The 10th Discus Dental Extravaganza will be held May 27-29, 2005, at the Venetian Hotel and Casino, featuring keynote programs by Dr. Phil McGraw, from the Lord of the Rings, Sean Astin, motivational speaker Jeanie Robertson and a stellar cast of leading clinical and practice management speakers.
