Automation basics for dental practice owners

Nov. 9, 2018
Automation and technology are here to stay, but much of it is confusing and hard to implement. But slowly, dentists can become acquainted with the latest technologies and automations and keep their practices up to date.
Consumer automation is out in full force and the technology proves, time and again, that it is a real solution to many of life’s indescribable difficulties. The integration of personal smart assistants, such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa, has changed how people operate in their daily lives. Here I will cover automation basics and present some applications of the technology that can potentially lead to increased productivity and profit in your practice.

Automation can be used in all industries

We are seeing automation industries around the world as the technology mounts an incredible offensive on the entire tech industry. However, what is very surprising is that businesses have been slow to adopt the technology.

Fewer than 20% of businesses already include the technology in their operations and others have been slow in their adoption practices. Only about 50% of businesses are using some type of marketing automation. Part of the reason for this could be the slow pace of adoption in general. This is not to say that they’re wrong not to adopt it, but the benefits of integration are potentially revolutionary.

Automation must be effectively implemented and integrated into current processes in order to be beneficial. “The first rule of any technology in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency,” said Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft Corporation. “The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.”

Automation provides incredible benefits

Luckily, we already have prime examples of automation businesses and services that can increase productivity and efficiency. HubSpot, for example, is a great marketing platform service that uses automation to generate entire marketing plans and execute them with little to no human intervention.

This is a huge advantage for new business owners and owners with simply too much on their books. For the business owner who wants to cut costs while maintaining or increasing productivity across the board, automation is just the thing. If that isn’t convincing, then consider that automation could add more jobs than it cuts.

There are possibilities for future development

Automation can clearly improve a business’s health while easing the burden of the costs of doing business. Whether it’s a personal assistant that creates and maintains calendars for you, or an automated marketing service that helps build your brand, automation is here to make it possible.

“Warp speed developments in technology—automation, artificial intelligence, and the arrival of the sharing economy—are transforming how we work,” said Alain Dehaze, CEO of The Adecco Group. “Beyond technology, traditional working patterns are also being disrupted by changes in society, organizations, and workforce management, leading to the rise of a more independent and dispersed workforce.”

What was once reserved only for the Jetsons can now be a reality in homes and businesses. While it is still new, the costs of getting involved are very reasonable and are expected to fall as participation in the tech sector rises.

Excitement about consumer automation is clear, thanks in part to the constant news coverage it receives. In fact, the rate of evolution in the sector is incredibly high and will only allow for greater usability as time goes on. Involvement in the sector on the business side must increase in order for greater applications to be created and brought to market. As education and information on automation industries increase, so too will the rates of adoption.

This technology will most likely change the face of business, if not the world, in a few years’ time. This is why it’s imperative to become involved now and not let your dental practice be left behind. There is a bright future ahead and we must do all that we can to hurl ourselves forward in the name of progress.
