June 5, 2020
In this series, Dr. Howard Glazer looks at products that can help practices during these challenging times. Here he reviews FIT SA from Shofu Dental Corporation, a resin that simplifies the high bond adhesive process.

Editor's note: In an effort to keep you informed of products that can help dental practices during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dental Economics columnist Howard Glazer, DDS, FAGD, has authored a special multipart series. In each installment, he reviews a product that can assist you during this challenging time.

FIT SA

Many emergency patients fall into one of two categories: pediatric or geriatric. Shofu’s FIT SA is a self-adhesive, nano-hybrid, flowable resin, and it should fit the bill for many situations. This product eliminates the need for a separate adhesive procedure without sacrificing high bond strength. FIT SA incorporates Shofu’s proprietary bioactive Giomer technology that releases and recharges six active ions: Fluoride, Strontium, Natrium/Sodium, Aluminum, Silicate, and Borate. These ions were instrumental in providing a 100% retention rate without secondary caries, failed restorations, or post-op sensitivity in a study conducted at the University of Florida Dental School in Gainesville.

Please note that this product is indicated for non-load-bearing areas making it ideal as a base/liner, and a restorative in small Class I (PRR), Class III, and Class V restorations. Consequently, it is ideal for pediatric and geriatric patients.

FIT SA comes in a syringe applicator that allows for direct and precise placement of the resin and is available in two viscosities: F03 (low flow) and F10 (high flow). Aesthetically, the material incorporates the light diffusion and transmission of natural enamel and dentin, so it blends well with adjacent tooth structure.

FIT SA is a highly polishable resin that has an anti-bacterial effect and minimizes plaque accumulation with bioactive Giomer technology. It would make a great addition to any dentist's arsenal.
