Professional development can open doors for dental assistants—doors to increased pay, professional recognition, advanced career opportunities, and feelings of personal accomplishment. That’s why the DALE Foundation, the official Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (DANB) affiliate, offers the Liz Koch Memorial Scholarship—to support oral health-care professionals as they work toward their professional development goals.
The Liz Koch Memorial Scholarship, now in its third year, is open to all dental assistants (including DANB certificants), dental office managers, and other oral health-care professionals. Scholarship awards provide support for career-advancing activities like enrolling in college courses; registering for state, regional or national dental conferences; earning DANB certification; and purchasing continuing education courses.

Winners will receive between $250 and $1,000 each, plus access to three continuing education products of their choice from the DALE Foundation catalog. Applications are due May 20, 2016, and winners will be chosen based on their interest in and commitment to the oral health care profession and to lifelong learning, as well as mentorship experiences.
Last year’s winners were Guadalupe Charles, CDA, who used her award to earn DANB Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification; Sherri Krohn, whose award went toward fulfilling requirements for the American Association of Dental Office Managers (AADOM) Fellowship; and Elizabeth Polak-Silva, CDA, who applied her award to courses in her bachelor’s degree program.
The DALE Foundation launched this scholarship in 2014 to honor the memory of Liz Koch and her many years of service and contributions in support of dental assistants. Liz believed in the potential of DANB and the DALE Foundation, but even more so, she believed in the potential of others. This memorial scholarship embodies Liz’s values and belief in the power of lifelong learning.
