Crest Oral-B recently named Sharon Stull of Chesapeake, Va., as the recipient of the fifth Pros in the Profession award for dental hygienists who "go above and beyond the call of duty."

The announcement for Stull's award stated that she was "an advocate for both education and community service, Sharon is dedicated to increasing care for segments of the society who are unable to receive basic oral healthcare services and encourages dental hygiene students to have a greater awareness of the true oral health needs of society."

“Crest Oral-B is to be commended for recognizing and valuing the role dental hygienists play in improving oral healthcare for the public through the Pros in Profession award program,” said Sharon. “My commitment has always been to provide professional care to the less fortunate members of society, and to be a role model and mentor to the next generation of dental hygienists so that they will do the same.”

Stull has several roles at Old Dominion University School of Dental Hygiene in Norfolk, VA, — lecturer, community health coordinator, and program director for the bachelor of science online degree completion program. She also has directed numerous study abroad programs, leading trips that focus on the dental health-care system in Germany.

“Sharon is a consummate volunteer, humanitarian and role model to dental hygiene practitioners, educators and students”, said Michele Darby of Old Dominion who nominated Stull for this award. “We are so fortunate to have Sharon as a faculty member at ODU where she can influence future generations of dental hygienists.”

Stull serves as an executive board member of Chesapeake Care Free Clinic, which increases oral health-care services to underserved populations in the area. She is also the president of the Oral Health Improvement Coalition of Southampton Roads, which hosts dental mission activities involving the dental hygiene students

With this honor, Sharon will join the other Pros in the Profession winners on a VIP all-expense-paid trip to ADHA’s 88thAnnual Session in Nashville this month. In addition, she will receive a $1,500 monetary prize, a pampering spa experience, an award and recognition at major conferences and in dental trade publications throughout the year, plus an exclusive trip to P&G headquarters.
