Civilians integral to Army dentistry

The United States Army Civilian Dental Corps consists of nearly 2,500 federal civilian employees that provide world-class oral care to military members and their families.

Despite being part of one of the world’s largest, most advanced dental care networks, few outside military circles are familiar with the United States Army Civilian Dental Corps. The Corps consists of nearly 2,500 federal civilian employees that provide world-class oral care to military members and their families.

“Our civilians are essential to operational continuity,” said John Heath, Human Resources Manager for the U.S. Army Dental Command. “When our military providers are deployed around the globe, our civilians remain to ensure local oral care needs are met. Approximately half of the Army dental care workforce is civilian.”

Corps members work at nearly 150 dental clinics throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Unlike their military counterparts, civilians are not subject to employment contracts, boot camp, or mandatory relocation. Qualified providers can work at any facility without having to secure additional licenses.

“Corps members occupy permanent federal positions with competitive salaries, unequaled job security, and exceptional benefits,” said Heath. “Equally important, our members take great pride in caring for those that defend our nation’s freedoms.”
