Dentists and dental hygienists need to develop a strong working relationship as oral health-care professionals. I sat down with Alicia Murria, RDH, a Philips KOL and practicing clinician, to discuss the importance of this relationship in dental practices.
When everyone shares a standard of care and calibrates as a team, hygienists understand completely that they are an important part of the health-care team. There is no gray area when there's a standard of care.
Every patient encounter should reflect the practice's core values. Alicia and I agree that taking CE together is a good idea because it doesn’t look good when team members contradict each other.
When the dentist agrees with what the hygienist has diagnosed and discussed with the patient, this affirms that the RDH as a health-care partner. When the dentist and hygienist work closely together, this presents a strong practice that’s more productive.
