2004 ADEA/GlaxoSmithKline Sensodyne� Excellence in Teaching Award Announced

Fourth Annual Award Honors Innovator in Dental Education.

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare and the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) are proud to announce the winner of the 2004 ADEA/GlaxoSmithKline Sensodyne� Excellence in Teaching Award. This year's award honors Dr. Chris D. Rice, Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology and Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare and ADEA honored Dr. Rice at the ADEA Annual Session Opening Ceremony at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle on March 6, 2004.

The ADEA/GlaxoSmithKline Sensodyne� Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes dental educators who demonstrate exemplary standards and promote excellence in dental education through scholarship and innovation, which may be demonstrated in any dental instructional setting. Award recipients chosen by ADEA are committed to principles of lifelong learning, demonstrate creativity in curriculum design or innovation in the delivery of education to students, and are regarded by their peers as excellent educators. Winners receive a grant to be used for educational training or to enhance their teaching efforts.

Dr. Rice currently is the director of pre-clinical courses in oral diagnosis at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. An active member of the school's community, he consistently ranks in the top tier of faculty rated by students. He has taught at the school for 19 years, and has received numerous teaching awards from the Dental Student Council for his efforts. A valued mentor and role model, Dr. Rice also has been asked by the school's first-year students to serve as their advisor.
