Working Interviews: Should you be paid?

June 20, 2012
RDH eVillage asks readers whether hygienists who are job candidates participating in "working interviews" should be paid for their time.

An evolving tend for dental hygienists is the working interview. The basic scenario is that we apply for a clinical dental hygiene position; after receiving a resume, the dental office wants to “give us a chance” to prove ourselves working in the office and providing care for patients.

The challenge that RDH eVillage is hearing about is that, during an increasing number of “working” interviews, dental hygienists are not getting paid.

Employers may check an applicant's skills by administering various assessments or by asking applicants to handle other workplace simulations. Yet, is it a game-changer when they ask you to perform actual clinical services and help out with patients?

We encourage all employers and dental personnel to participate in the survey, which can be accessed here.
