On February 26, the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine student chapter of AAWD held its first "Women in Dentistry" event at Tremont on the Common in downtown Boston. The event, planned by third-year dental student Taryn Jirousek and sponsored by the Tufts University Office of Equal Opportunity and Delta Dental, brought together women dentists in the greater Boston area and Tufts dental students to offer insight into the professional and personal aspects of being a female dentist. Women from many different backgrounds and specialties, ranging from private practitioners to businesswomen to faculty members, shared their insights on topics including practice management, career advancement, alternative career paths, and balancing a family with a dental career. With nearly 50 attendees, the event was a huge success, and the Tufts AAWD chapter hopes it will continue as an annual event.
