The ShadeVision System, a shade-matching device from X-Rite, Inc. used to consistently determine the hue, value and chroma of teeth, has recently undergone several product enhancements to better meet the needs of the user. The color map has been improved to allow the user to define the gingival, dentinal, and incisal regions for a more accurate analysis of the tooth shade. This new feature is especially beneficial for the user to define and analyze the specific tooth color structure and value changes for additional color information to build the restoration. The single-tooth report allows the user to select a tooth and display the full color, color grid, color map, hue, value and chroma maps, which can be printed off on one page so the restoration shade can be assessed quickly and easily. Additionally, the ability to import any digital image directly into the patient file is a new function that allows users to see images of the entire mouth and to further enhance the communication between the dentist and dental laboratory.

"These modifications to the software have been implemented as a result of direct user input," said Shannon Gary, Marketing Manager, X-Rite, Inc. "The new additions will make the ShadeVision even easier to use, and will allow for a more precise communication between the dentist and the lab."

The cordless, handheld ShadeVision System uses advanced colorimeter technology to consistently determine the hue, value and chroma of the teeth. Within seconds, images are conveniently captured and the data is uploaded to the dentist's personal computer for processing. This information is easily communicated to the laboratory electronically, or printed out. The lab now has objective data with which to fabricate and verify the restoration's esthetics. As a result, productivity is improved, remakes reduced, and patient office time minimized. ShadeVision is an effective communications tool that improves the ability to deliver natural esthetics the first time.
