A dental assistant who practiced in Salzburg, Austria, is charged with pretending to be the substitute dentist at the practice where she worked and performing dental treatments herself, from drilling and extracting to producing dentures.
The dental assistant is believed to have moved appointments to dates when the dentist was out of office so that she could perform procedures herself. She charged the patients in cash, often before procedures, and asked many for loans, claiming she needed money for her mother’s funeral. One patient gave her 10,000 Euros.
Eventually, the dental assistant was found to be charging too much, and several patients complained to the Medical Council near the end of 2012. The assistant was terminated and has admitted her guilt. It’s unclear how many patients she treated or why she pretended to be a dentist in the first place.
The real dentist offered to correct his patients’ work for free if it was not up to standard.
