After placing numerous calls to Tuscaloosa, Ala., dental offices that were not answered or were picked up by answering services the morning following the tornadoes, Kenya Post, dental hygienist in the office of Dr. William Wright, answered the phone.
Though the office was due to see patients today, no one was coming in for their appointments. A bit of good news is that Dr. Wright’s office did not receive any damage.
“No one can get around town,” Ms. Post said. “The tornado destroyed one of our main corridors, including a mall downtown where many of the college students go. People aren’t venturing out much today.”
The homes of her fellow employees were not damaged, and many of them came into the office today prepared to help the community in any way they can. They also planned to place calls to their patients to check on them.
“We’ve never been through anything like this, and our staff is willing to help where we can,” she said. “We’ll start with collections of food, water, and clothing, and deliver that where it’s needed. It’s too early to know what other dental offices were affected, but if necessary I’m sure we will see some patients of any other dentists who need assistance.”
