An ancient Incan toothache remedy, handed down for centuries among indigenous people in the rainforests of Peru, could revolutionize worldwide dental practice.

The remedy, made from an Amazonian plant species from varieties of Acmella Oleracea and turned into a gel for medical use, has proved highly successful during the first two phases of clinical trials, and may spell relief from dental pain and reliance on local anesthetics and NSAIDs.

The Phase III clinical trials will be the final obstacle to clear for the product to be brought to market in 2014/2015. Currently there are no known side effects.
