The introduction of this student scholarship program was made possible by an initial allocation from the Academy of Laser Dentistry. The Academy is seeking contributions to the Dr. Eugene M. Seidner Student Scholarship Program.

The Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) launches the Dr. Eugene M. Seidner Student Scholarship Program designed to promote dental laser education.

This scholarship program:
** Encourages undergraduate and graduate dental students to broaden their understanding of lasers in dentistry;
** Provides financial award to enable students to present their work at the Academy's annual meetings in either poster presentations or scientific and clinical lectures;
** Encourages the study of the various laser wavelengths and their correct and safe use in dentistry.

The introduction of this student scholarship program was made possible by an initial allocation from the Academy of Laser Dentistry. The Academy is seeking contributions to the Dr. Eugene M. Seidner Student Scholarship Program. Voluntary donations from ALD members, the dental profession and other sources are expected. To make your contribution contact the Academy of Laser Dentistry, Gail Siminovsky, Executive Director, email [email protected] or by phone 954-346-3776.

Initial scholarships will be presented to up to four dental students to attend and present their work during ALD's conference SOURCE 2004: Lasers in Dentistry, March 3-6, 2004. The selection will be based on an abstract of laser research or clinical case studies submitted for presentation. Funding for each successful candidate will cover one year of ALD membership, Standard Proficiency Dental Laser application fees at Source 2004, full conference registration, air transportation, and up to 4 nights hotel accommodations at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa, Indian Wells, Palm Springs, California.

Criteria for eligibility is determined by the applicant's demonstrated academic achievement in the study of lasers in dentistry. Applicants must be undergraduate dental students, graduate students in general practice, and graduate students in any specific dental specialty. Application forms and instructions are available by contacting Ms. Estrella Azus, Education Coordinator, at the Academy office.

According to ALD President, Dr. Alan Goldstein, the Academy of Laser Dentistry will be entirely responsible for the administration of this program. "We are committed to helping the profession learn about the safe and effective uses of dental lasers for patient care," said Dr. Goldstein.

The scholarship program is named to honor the memory of Dr. Eugene M. Seidner, ALD's President 1996-97. Dr. Seidner is most aptly described as a pioneer; both as a clinician for his early use of lasers in his dental practice as well as his contribution to the formation of the Academy of Laser Dentistry. Known as a "giver", Dr. Seidner conveyed his broad vision to all who knew him in a manner that was uniquely warm and generous. The Academy is proud to honor his memory through this student scholarship.
