Editor's Note: "On Giving Back: We want YOU to be on the cover of Woman Dentist e-Journal"
As we approach the holiday season, we look forward to ending our year on an upswing. October is always a great transition month. Reflecting on the start of the baseball playoffs (as a die-hard Cubs fan, I will not even discuss that right now), the beautiful foliage changes of the season, Halloween spirits, and the last few weeks of this two-year electoral run to the presidency, we have a lot to be thankful for this October. We at Woman Dentist e-Journal would like to thank YOU for your loyalty and support. I know, we are a month early for giving thanks (Thanksgiving is in November), but we wanted you to know that we truly appreciate every one of our readers.
With that note of thanks in mind, we are extending you an invitation to be a featured dentist on the cover of Woman Dentist e-Journal. We are seeking several women out of our readership to become feature dentists in 2009. We would like you to submit a short, less-than-100-word synopsis as to why you should be on the cover of Woman Dentist e-Journal. Our main criterion is that you have a passion for your profession. Do you have an interesting hobby to share? Are you working a highly creative schedule? Did you have all of your children while you were in dental school and are watching them grow as you grow your practice? Oh, wait — that was me! Anyway, we would like to hear from as many of you as possible.
Entrants need to submit their short profile to both me ([email protected]), and my associate editor, Vicki Cheeseman, ([email protected]) by Dec. 10, 2008. We will decide on three profiles, with the first appearing in the March issue. So you have multiple chances to have your name in the journal and also be featured for a month on the Woman Dentist Journal Web site (www.wdjournal.com). Please also let us know if you have any ideas for article content, or if you would care to craft an article yourself.
I would like to direct you to the "Simplify" column this month. We are spotlighting all of the companies that have either made a true effort to create designated breast cancer awareness products, or are donating funds to breast cancer organizations with a portion of the proceeds of these products. Please visit their Web sites or visit them at trade shows to show your support of the forward-thinking manufacturers who are contributing funds to find a cure for a very important women's health issue. I personally applaud these companies and would like to see more in next year's breast cancer awareness "Simplify" column in October.
Finally, I would like to toot my children's horns. As you may recall, my daughter, Erin, was married this past June in Hawaii. After her wedding, she decided to get all of her beautiful long hair cut short for her impending year of teaching kindergarten. She donated her hair, almost two feet of it, to Locks of Love. This was a selfless, kind-hearted gift that is yet another reason why I am truly so proud of my daughter. Not to favor one child over another, my son, Ryan, was nominated for two Chicago Emmy Awards this fall. He has been nominated for a series he created, wrote, filmed, and appeared in called "Tales from the Tower" for NBC5 in Chicago. His second nomination was co-producing and appearing in a commercial spotlighting an upcoming feature on the news. Because he jumped into a dumpster for this commercial, they should give him the award for his sheer dedication to the art of television. The awards will be given out on Oct. 18, 2008, which will be the day after this e-journal is deployed. I'll keep you posted.
On that happy note, I wish you all a fabulous fall. I look forward to your profiles in dentistry.
Peace,
Sheri
