Are you screening for medical conditions?

Feb. 18, 2021
Medical pros are doing a good job of promoting oral health. Casey Hein, BSDH, says it's now dental pros' turn to look at their patients more holistically. How can they do this?

Casey Hein, MBA, BSDH, has spent a great deal of her career promoting the oral-systemic link. She has watched as medical professionals have made great strides in reminding their patients about the importance of oral health and how it links to their overall health.

Are dental professionals doing the same for their medical peers? Not so much. Hein tells Dr. Pamela Maragliano-Muniz that dentists have so many tools at their disposal today that will help them conduct medical screenings. Diabetes, sleep apnea, osteoporosis, and hypertension are just a few of the conditions dental professionals can screen for during patient visits.

Dr. Pam asks several questions from a dentist's perspective, such as the time involved, cost, and more. Find out how you can become more active in offering medical screenings and promoting patients' holistic health.
