Dexis to donate digital X-ray systems for GKAS Day

Dec. 24, 2003
More than a million low-income children will receive free dental checkups and treatment from some 25,000 participating dentists, hygienists, and staff who have signed up to participate in the Feb. 6 program.

DEXIS®, an innovative industry leader in digital radiography, will donate 50 digital X-ray systems, as well as qualified instructor/operators, as part of its commitment to "Give Kids a Smile" Day on February 6, 2004.

More than a million low-income children will receive free dental checkups and treatment from some 25,000 participating dentists, hygienists, and staff who have signed up to participate in the one-day program. DEXIS will be providing two fully functioning digital X-ray systems at each of 20 dental schools across the country, in addition to systems at 10 of the largest and most prominent private practices. With each system, DEXIS will also provide an operator/instructor to facilitate the use of the systems and to insure maximum efficiency.

"DEXIS sees this as an important opportunity to give back to the dental community," said DEXIS CEO Nicholas Willson. "We understood that by providing these systems we could do our part to help insure that a greater number of children would receive dental treatment in the safest possible manner." Willson estimates that, based on the time savings achieved by digital radiography, in locations where DEXIS equipment is installed, as many as 20-25% percent more children would be able to be seen than in other locations using traditional film that day. "The DEXIS Digital Radiography systems greatly increase the rapid diagnostic capability that is so important in a program like this," he said. In addition, Willson emphasizes DEXIS' ongoing commitment to the "Give Kids a Smile" program. "We were pioneering sponsors of the first nationwide program in 2002 and we intend to maintain our commitment for years to come. We believe strongly in this cause."

Jeff Dalin, who originated the "Give Kids a Smile" program locally in St. Louis several years ago, said, "DEXIS was one of the first companies to step up and support us. Their involvement made a tremendous difference in the success of our program and the number of children we were able to treat."

DEXIS, long an industry innovator, was the first to introduce digital radiography systems featuring laptop computers. The company also pioneered the PerfectSize™ rounded-edge sensor, an innovation which enhanced patient comfort by eliminating the sharp edges typical of film and other digital sensors. And in 2001, DEXIS was the first company to have its digital radiography system receive the American Dental Association "Seal of Acceptance" when it was admitted into the prestigious ADA Acceptance Program.
