This is what we all strive to do. This is a column created to embody a hands-on approach toward user-friendly solutions for our lives. Each month I discuss concepts relating to women dentists, their lives, and their work. I focus on alternative dental products, Web sites, books, concepts, and organizations that simplify our world.

National Sex Offender Registry

Enter your address and a small house icon will represent your house on a map. Red, blue, and green dots will surround your neighborhood. Click on the dots, and sex offenders’ mug shots will appear with their addresses and crime descriptions. You can show your children pictures and see how close offenders live to your home or children’s school. The site was developed by John Walsh from “America’s Most Wanted.” With all the predators out there, it is another tool available to help us keep our kids safe.

Lite Wax Black Dental Floss
I have been a fan of POH floss since my early dental hygiene days. This line has unwaxed and lightly waxed products. Any plaque removed shows up on the black floss while the color of any hemorrhagic tissue exudates is blocked. It’s the only black floss available, and it’s highly motivating, especially to patients who immediately stop flossing when they see the first sign of red on a white string. Temporary Crown

Matrix Buttons
For fabricating single-unit crowns, this product is the easiest. The thermoplastic acrylic disk is heated, formed to the pre-preparation tooth, and once the button returns to its original white color, it is removed. After crown preparation, the temporary material is injected or placed into the form created, seated upon the tooth preparation, and allowed to set. For removal, minimal trimming and polishing are necessary. Two buttons may be used for a three-unit bridge. Call Advantage Dental Products, (800) 388-6319 or visit www.advantagedentalinc.com.
