Cefla Medical Solutions’ MyRay Hyperion X5 wall-mounted panoramic imaging system has received FDA approval and is now available in the United States.

Cefla Medical Solutions announced Monday that the MyRay Hyperion X5 wall-mounted panoramic imaging system has cleared the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approval process, making it available to dental customers in the United States through Cefla Medical Solutions North America. Until now, the X5 has only been available in Europe.

The MyRay Hyperion X5 is the first wall-mounted panoramic imaging system, and it’s also the smallest pan unit ever available. With a user interface designed to be ultra simple, the X5 achieves up to 15 high-definition, 2-D projections in a few simple steps. Designed to simplify practice workflow, the system features automatic focusing and Morphology Recognition Technology (MRT), which prevent the need to manually set exposure parameters and the patient’s jaw size and which guard against under- or overexposure.

“It helps dentists make an immediate diagnosis, keep patients informed, and make the most of every minute of the day as they work to complete and explain procedures,” said Massimo Di Russo, Cefla’s general manager.

The MyRay Hyperion X5 wall-mounted panoramic imaging system offers the diagnostic features needed for all patients in a few, simple steps. The QuickPan exam allows a reduction in exposure time (only six seconds) and radiation dose, while the MultiPan function offers the practitioner the opportunity to scroll between several panoramic slices obtained through a single examination and select the sharpest from the group. The unit’s high signal-noise ratio enables the practitioner to see clinical details clearly, and the broad focal layer should ensure quality images in every circumstance.

The iRYS image management software suite is included, so the Hyperion X5 shares its own images with all PCs present in the practice. An iPad/Android app is also available for image exchange and assessment and for patient communication. If preferred, full TWAIN connectivity allows the pan to be used with any other imaging software on the market. Automatic standby and immediate reactivation minimize electricity consumption.

“Cefla believes in much more than just packing as much technology as possible into a dental device,” said Di Russo. “Our main goal is to make each device as effective as possible so that the end user can immediately benefit from what the technology has to offer, in terms of both performance and quality. We're proud that our creative solutions offer unprecedented levels of comfort and the best available technology. You can count on us for instruments designed for innovation, speed, design, and performance.”

The X5 was awarded the 2015 Red Dot Design Award for Product Design by an international panel of independent judges who judged approximately 5,000 products using criteria ranging from ergonomics to functionality, durability, and degree of innovation.

The X5 was on display at the Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM) at the end of last year. It will be on display again during the Chicago Midwinter Meeting in February and at CDA South later in May.
