Centrix has introduced the HeatSleeve self-heating composite warmer. By providing calibrated heat chairside, this new device helps to eliminate voids and spaces during the placement of composite restorations that cause postoperative sensitivity.

"Studies confirm that warming composites improves their flow and adaptation to the preparation, while maintaining its other physical properties," said Gregori M. Kurtzman, DDS, MAGD, FPFA, FACD. "Centrix HeatSleeve is a cost-effective device that is easy to use with both unidose compules and composite syringes. Additionally, the warmed composite takes less effort to express from the compule, minimizing hand strain while optimizing composite placement, assisting in quality restorations without the voids that may be present after placement of room-temperature composite."

HeatSleeve easily slides over the composite tip or syringe. The disc is then flexed to activate the heating process, and in three minutes the composite warms to 127°F (53°C). HeatSleeve keeps the composite warm for at least 15 minutes.

Warmed composites adapt better to prep walls. Using HeatSleeve offers the added benefit of reduced expression force for dispensing the composite by nearly 70% on average.

“We developed HeatSleeve to make it easier for dentists to deliver quality restorations with less likelihood of postoperative sensitivity,” said Dr. William Dragan, Centrix founder. “Let me tell you about another problem HeatSleeve solves. I know too well the pain and difficulties in my hands caused by years of practice. Nearly 40% of dentists have some kind of hand pain, and all dentists lose hand strength as we get older. HeatSleeve addresses these problems by making it up to 68% easier to express composite and other dental materials. HeatSleeve sure would have helped my hands—and I know it will help you.”
