Planmeca introduces SingLED Operatory Light

Light minimizes eyestrain for dentists while promoting infection control.

ROSELLE, Illinois--Research has documented that poor lighting is one of the most common causes of eyestrain and fatigue among dentists.

Performing hundreds of dental procedures in poor lighting has been proven to create long-term negative effects on the dentist's vision and the heat generated from typical quartz-halogen lights increases patient and operating team discomfort.

A new single LED operating light, created by scientists and product engineers at Planmeca OY in Finland, is now available for dentists. Planmeca's SingLED Operatory Light provides a hands-free solution to infection control for turning the light on or off, as well as providing adjustable settings throughout the color temperature range.

Planmeca's SingLED Operatory Light uses a computer-designed faceted reflector with a single light emitting diode that lasts 10 times longer than conventional quartz-halogen lights.

"Our new LED technology has created a light that provides shadow free and consistent color corrected illumination throughout the light pattern, which minimizes eye strain even during long dental procedures," stated Bill Kochelek, equipment sales manager for Planmeca USA.

"And this green technology requires only one-tenth the energy required to operate a typical multi-LED operating light. This translates into greenhouse emissions reduction estimated for a 12-month period at 9.5 lbs of carbon dioxide for our single LED technology compared to 90 lbs. of carbon dioxide for multi-LED designs," Kochelek added.

He also pointed out that the SingLED promotes infection control by offering hygienic light handles which are removable for sterilization. The light handles can also be repositioned, without tools, to accommodate the operator's desired personal grasp.

Other features include:

* Faceted parabolic reflector: Computer designed, the faceted parabolic reflector projects a near perfect light pattern focused on the treatment area without color washing on the outer edges of the light pattern

* Unit, wall, cabinet, ceiling and track mounts available--Besides mounting to Planmeca units, triangle optiline island cabinets, the SingLED Operatory Light can also be ceiling- or track-mounted. The patent-pending evolutionary track design delivers stable and flexible solution for positioning an LED light and monitor without imposing or colliding with either components desired position.

* Optional mounting arm for LCD monitor: A mounting arm is available for adding a 15- or 17-inch LCD monitor to the unit-mounted compact light post.
