Salese delivers moisture-retaining, bacteria-fighting and enamel luster-restoring ingredients for hours.

SANTA CLARA, California--Nuvora has introduced Salese, a new low-dose, long-duration soft lozenge for dry mouth sufferers that delivers moisture-retaining, bacteria-fighting and enamel luster-restoring (calcium and phosphate) ingredients for hours.

Dry mouth affects at least one in 10 adults in the general population. In those over 65 years, the prevalence approaches 25% and in institutionalized elders the rates may be as high as 45-50%. Almost 40% of Florida residents 65+ years have dry mouth.

Dry mouth can cause serious health problems and it is estimated that more than 1,100 prescription and over-the-counter drugs have the potential to cause dry mouth. These include antacids, decongestants, antihistamines, antihypertensives, antidepressants and diuretics.

Dry mouth may also result from Sjogren's syndrome, radiation treatment for head and neck cancers, and salivary gland disease.

Traditional products for dry mouth hygiene have included sugar-free gum or candy, frequent sips of water, oral rinses, as well as taking extra care of teeth and gums.

But the ingredients delivered by conventional dry mouth products (i.e., gels, sprays, rinses, gums and mints) are eliminated from the mouth quickly. Since the ingredients' duration in the mouth is short, their effectiveness is limited to that short time period they are in the mouth.

The key to Salese's long-lasting properties is Nuvora's patented Sustained Release Technology--SuRe. A polymer combined with essential oils, enamel's basic chemical building blocks, Xylitol and a moisture-retaining ingredient creates an extended contact time in the mouth to fight bacteria and help dry mouth sufferers to rebuild their enamel surface for a shiny luster and smooth and clean teeth.

Because Salese is a sustained release product, active ingredients (including Xylitol, calcium and phosphate) are delivered efficiently and continuously in small and optimum doses, (e.g., up to 1,000 times less than conventional mouthwash.

The extended contact created by Salese with its beneficial agents and the oral structures increases the oral hygiene benefits and the fresh-mouth feel essential to those suffering from dry mouth.

The ingredients used in Nuvora lozenges are generally regarded as safe. They kill bacteria, prevent or capture the malodors the bacteria cause, impede the formation of biofilm and help to achieve a healthy tooth appearance. Evidence shows that lowering the total bacteria in the mouth promotes cleaner teeth and fresher breath.

Salese is available in three flavors: peppermint, wintergreen and new mild lemon. Salese is not generally available in retail outlets but can be purchased by dental offices via Henry Schein, Patterson, Burkhart or Pearson dental dealers.
