Beginning in San Francisco on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, the American Academy of Periodontology's (AAP) five-day annual meeting will kick off with a jam-packed day of complimentary events for all registered attendees, including six new hours of exhibit hall time (with gratis coffee and Internet access) and the Corporate Forum -- an opportunity to learn about the latest products, services and techniques from the companies that develop them.
"The meeting builds on these exciting additions on Sunday, starting with an Opening Ceremony that includes complimentary continental breakfast, followed immediately by a session on steps that members can take to make the Academy's 2020 Vision a reality and a special full-day symposium for dental hygienists," explained Gordon Douglass, DDS, AAP president. "AAP members are encouraged to register their dental hygienist team members for this cutting edge symposium 'Dental Hygiene and Periodontics: The Future is Now,'" Douglass continued. "This event is sure to increase attendees' knowledge of periodontal diseases, therapies and periodontal esthetics, with practical advice to help their dental hygiene team members better serve their patients and foster closer partnerships with the practicing periodontist."
The "Creating the Esthetic Interior Implant" symposium (general session) on Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. provides periodontists and their referring dentists with an opportunity to explore interdisciplinary approaches to producing ideal esthetic and functional patient results. This session is free for all registered meeting attendees, and tickets can be purchased separately for a pre-registration price of $75, or $95 onsite.
All attendees are invited to take a break from the mental stimulation offered at these events -- and the more than 70 additional continuing education offerings throughout the Annual Meeting -- and purchase tickets for the AAP-AAP Foundation Presidents' Gala. This elegant evening of dinner and dancing at San Francisco's only Five Star, Five Diamond Hotel -- The Ritz Carlton -- is a treat that will be remembered by all who attend. "The Gala is the perfect diversion for meeting attendees and their good friends and colleagues to recharge and enjoy the ultimate San Francisco experience," Douglass commented. Tickets are $175, and should be purchased in advance as space is limited.
The AAP Foundation has also planned a variety of exciting extracurricular events ranging from a golf tournament and "Play by the Bay 5K Fun Run" to a course on "Preserving Your Wealth -- Estate Planning Breakfast for Periodontists and Spouses." These events support the education and research activities of the Foundation through the sustaining fund. For additional information, contact (312) 573-3259.
The AAP is a 7,500-member association of dental professionals specializing in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth and in the placement and maintenance of dental implants.
